Annual employee performance reviews are great in concept. They provide the employee with a documented summary of management’s perception of their contributions. They provide the manager with a formal tool to communicate opportunities for growth and improvement.

They can provide companies an objective means to measure and reward performance contributions thus supporting a pay-for-performance model. In principal, employee performance reviews are a good thing and conceptually, they provide benefits to all parties. Read the rest of this entry »

The competitive landscape for training delivery companies is changing. Training companies are being impacted by economic fluctuations, technology changes, and the evolution of what I will term the industrial training norms. And let’s not omit the impact of the speed at which these changes are occurring.

Economy, Technology, Industrial Norms Changing
Economic Impact
It does not take a genius to figure out that the economy is a huge factor in determining corporate spending. Here we are again; Thanksgiving Day, the traditional start of the Holiday Season in the U.S., is the day after tomorrow. For many this is the beginning of a joyous time celebrated with parties, gifts, and good tidings for all. For some it is a time of reflection on and thanks for all of the good that has come into their lives. Feasting, football, and shopping are traditional ways for us to celebrate the Thanksgiving weekend.

For many, however, this will be another season of sadness and frustration at being unemployed and unable to provide their families the kind of celebrations the rest of us are enjoying. What a tremendous difference having or not having a few paychecks can make.
I am forgoing my usual leadership commentary this week to remind everyone who will be enjoying the holidays to please take a moment and consider those who are less fortunate. Please give generously to the agencies in your local community who are working to make life better for those who are less fortunate.
I know in my heart that you will enjoy the holiday even more by knowing that you have helped someone else to enjoy theirs.
Happy Holidays Everyone
